About
Stephen Smith ran for the Governor of West Virginia in the 2020 election. With a strong background in social justice and advocacy, Smith's campaign aimed to bring transformative change to the state, addressing the core issues facing West Virginians.
As Creative Director, I sought to create a unique and resonant campaign identity that captured Smith's vision for the future of West Virginia. Drawing inspiration from the state's rich history and resilient spirit, we created a visual language that seamlessly integrated with the campaign's core messages, fostering a sense of unity and authenticity with an aesthetic that was modern and approachable.
With Covid-19 upending the campaign's ground operation, we were faced with unprecedented challenges to produce content. We pivoted to a heavily-mobile UGC approach, leveraging the campaign's key differentiators: a passionate volunteer base and long list of popular policy reforms.
